Modern Jive. A fun, easy, partner dance for both beginners and experts.
Introductory Offer. And more!
It takes a few weeks when you try a new hobby, to start to build up some confidence and get an idea of what you're doing. With this in mind, we aim to give our new dancers a boost. Available to those people who have never danced before, we're giving you the first 8 classes for just £4 each (£36 total, £30 for concessions). This offer has to be used within 10 weeks of your first class (we can be a bit flexible with this), and is payable in advance at your first class night (you can pay at the end if you want to see what we do first!).
Fancy dancing at 2 class nights a week? On the first night you attend each week, you can take advantage of our 'two for a tenner' price. Pay £10 (£8 concessions) that night, and it's free the second class night you come dancing with us in the same week.
Feeling a bit mad. Or very energetic. Dance with us for 3 class nights in a week, and it's just £15 or £11 for concessions (again, payable on the first night you attend).
Dance away your Demons
The issue of mental health - depression, bipolar, anxiety etc. is fast becoming one of the most common illnesses of the modern world. It's already one of the reasons for many people visiting the doctor, and has recently gained high news coverage from the Heads Together campaign, started by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
So, that's the bad news! Now for the good. Dancing has been proven to help with symptoms of mental illness, from relieving depression and anxiety to other benefits, such as helping to prevent Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Don't believe me? Google "dancing and mental health benefits", and read the 2.5 million results (set aside an afternoon or two!). And, the even better news, it's also fun, you can make friends and don't have to go to the gym any more either!
I can even relate to this personally. I have been dancing since 1999, and was formally diagnosed with depression and anxiety in 2001, although like most people (men!), I pushed it down for years until I got so bad that I had to go and see a doctor. Dancing has given me a new lease of life, and when I'm dancing, everything else just seems to disappear. Unfortunately, between dances I have to return to the real world. But it's not that long until I can dance again!
With a degree in law, and a previous job as an IT project manager, I found myself struggling to cope with a real job, and instead became a dance teacher. It's not always easy, and there's still stressful times, when I struggle to get through a class night, and even times when I can't face the prospect of going at all, but without the dancing, I'm sure that I wouldn't be here to keep fighting anymore.
At Electric Jive, we're very friendly and easy to get to know. Come along and try it out. It isn't for everyone, but you never know, it may help you. PS. You don't have to have mental health issues - we'll take those without too! More details at www.electricjive.co.uk
